Cabelas has a sale going on, RM380 for $250, and then the $100 Black Friday rebate from Rem.
The R51 for $300 before the $100 Rem black Friday rebate.
If you need any of these, The R9 as well, it's hard to pass up!
I just couldn't get the Smoke/Silver R51 that I wanted.
The clerk said he had never seen one in the store.

While I was there last evening, (buying one of each, will have to be shipped, state line problem, until the new one opens up on this side next spring), the very first RM380 out from under the glass, had the slide open about a quarter of an inch.  They tried to cycle it, and it would only go about another quarter inch.  Locked up except for that fraction of an inch movement.

One of the salesmen took it to the back, and it came back working about 15/20 minutes later.  Hopefully, that gun is not is not have "teeth cutting", problems as well.  (I certainly didn't want or get that display model!)  So far in all the articles that I have saw about it, I haven't heard or seen such a problem, or virtually any problem.

For those that might not know, Rem bought out Rhoarbaugh, and this is their reproduction of that close to $1,000 gun!
With improvements, yet, or so Rem says.

Jug,
I have never been too impressed with Cabela's personnel.   They are not really well versed in firearms.   I have never been to look at a firearm and
had it handed to me locked back.   They just pick it up and lay it on the counter.   My local Gun Store, whoever hands me a firearm,  I can guarantee
they will first  open the cylinder, or open the slide and take the magazine out.
Also the Cabela's in Waco, Texas takes almost 30 minutes to complete a gun sale at the least.   I bought a RIA Baby Rockl there a couple of years ago and
it took them 45 minutes.   Had to fill out the Form 4473 on their computer, and then had to also fill out the paper form.

So many guns, so little time!

Blackie,

Cabelas sounds like Dicks.  I purchased a shotgun from them a year or two ago.  Same BS with the Form on their computer.  Then the store manager had to come, inspect and sign off on it.  Then the manager had to take the shotgun to the check out counter.  After checkout the manager had to walk it out the door before he would hand it to me..  Totally nuts and the result of their ambulance chasers running the show.  I'd sure never buy a hand gun there!

Bought a R31 at Cabela's in Fort Worth. When the sales guy got the gun out of the counter, he opened it to check then closed the slide. When he handed it to me, I opened it and locked the slide back. I had already decided to buy the gun when I walked in the door so all of that was kind of wasteful. I filled out the computer form and the sales guy  ckecked it over. We then went to he check line and he printed out the paper copy. After two supervisors double cheked the forms, the sales guy took my money and asked me if I was going to stay and look around or if I was going to leave. I wanted to leave so he gave me an option. He told me that he could have someone escort me out or he could just put tape around the box and give it to me. I opted for the tape. Granted it was not the fastest checkout I have ever done. But I would rather have them double check things that make a mistake. They cannot afford to have a bad audit from the ATF.

The down side is they only had three salesmen at the gun counter so I had to wait probably 15 or 20 minutes to get waited one. I have always been impressed by the sales guys knowledge about their product. But, they cannot be expected to know everything there is to know about evey gun they have in stock.

Guys, the "Walk you to the door to give you the gun" has been pretty standard for years now, at least around here.  Even WalMart!  Only the little, "Mom and Pop, gun stores let you take the gun at the counter and walk out the door on your own.

The thing that I was most interested in was why would the RM380 lock about a quarter inch from being closed, and not open more than a quarter inch more?

Since I bought one that night, (haven't even got it yet, long story, but between Cabelas and my newest FFL, it's been a nightmare!  Should finally ship today.  Cabelas is in Kansas, and I am in MO.  About 25 miles, but across state lines!)

But back to the gun locking up, just can't see how this would happen, without looking at one somemore.

You mentioned the smoke-silver version. Is that a limited edition or something, because I have been talking to  my local shops here and same story......they never heard of it.

I don't think it's a limited edition, just Rem's latest offering but I could be wrong. I got mine at Sportsman's Warehouse and it was the same price as the black version.

Smoke.
I am beginning to wonder it it really was a "special" run, or maybe just an accident?????
Hey, question for you guys that have them, I surmise "they all" are Alabama frames, right?
No more seem to be forth coming.

With what little I know about anodizing aluminum, I would guess that the "smoked surface", hardening is automatically a bit thinner.  As I said, the darker color sort of portends a thicker, more durable finish in my mind.

That aside, I looked high and wide for one before I bought another black one.

Possibly, not not necessarily so.  The black color is from a dye, not thickness or hardness.  The same is true for the smoke, but a different dye.

(Metal finishing is my business.  In fact one of my customers is anodizing Remington frames.)

I was completely wrong on them not making any more smoke/silver guns.

They are popping up all over the place right now.

Buds, Cheaper than Dirt and Grab a Gun, at least.
