I had a Gen 2 R51, that was build in Alabama. Ever since I received the gun it had a weird grip safety. The issue with it is like the safety hits a wall halfway depressed. When you hit that wall you have to squeeze harder and it makes a loud audible click, It requires about 1 foot pound of force to get back that wall. I didn't think much of it, but it annoyed me how loud it was. It was like trigger takeup before the break.

I contacted Remington and they had me ship it out to Heinricks, it came back 4 days later with a statement "within specs." Ha yeah right. So I went to the LGS that had 2 R51s, neither of those two had the issue mine had. So I took a video, contacted them a second time and asked for them to watch it. They had me send it out again to Heinricks and he replaced the grip safety, thats it. I got it back and the issue was still there. So I call them up and ask if they even watched the video, nope. So the guy I was on the phone with watched it and said it was indeed not normal. This time the guy authorized to get my gun replaced.

It's now going on 3 weeks and no word on my replacement gun. I called yesterday and was told to call back in a week. Oh well I had the new M&P 2.0 Compact to keep my attention in the mean time.

Anyone else have this weird grip safety issue? So far I'm 0% impressed with Heinricks firearm repair.

Can you post the video here, or maybe post it to youtube and put a link here?

I think there is an option to post "private" to youtube so you can only view the video if you know the link - if that is your preference.

I too would like to see that video.

The grip safety on mine seemed a bit stiff or mushy out of the box.
After about 200 rounds I cleaned it including flushing the safety mechanism from inside the magazine well with aerosol gun scrubber.
It now has spring over center snap feel to it. I like this better. A definite safety on or safety off feel.

As others have reported, mine has the problem of the lever stopping too far forward leaving the sharp edges of the frame exposed.
This can dig into the thumb web after a while. Some day I'll investigate a solution to this issue.. or just wear gloves.

Burgandy,
You will probably hear of a fix on this Forum long before you get satisfaction from Remington.   Shameful, but that seems to be their style of customer service.
Once they came out with the GenII They reverted back to type.

Kirk,
Any other information on this?   Reasons/  etc...   Hopefully, we can look forward to positive changes at Remington.

I heard it on a podcast.  The implication was that it was a cost-savings measure.  The claim was also made that plant workers would be put on rotating furloughs.

I'll see if I can find a news story or something.

Here's the link and the "story" (such as it is):

BREAKING: Top Executives Leave Remington; Furlough Days Scheduled

In another possible sign of a continued softening firearms market, three top executives from Remington have left the company to pursue other opportunities. The three VPs represent some of the hardest hit subsections of the firearms industry – Firearms/Accessories, Ammunition and Sales divisions.

In addition, Remington is announcing the future use of employee furlough days. Although the affected departments have not yet been announced, the logical assumption would be that they would mirror those of the exiting VPs. The company is stating that it is selecting furloughs rather than a reduction in force (RIF) – layoffs.

TFB will be following this story and will provide updates as they become available.
The Following Top Executives Left Remington:

Senior Vice President/General Manager, Firearms and Accessories
    Senior Vice President, Ammunition
    Senior Vice President of Sales

In reaction to the industry's soft market and a need to adjust inventory already in the distribution channels, we are scheduling furlough days. We are taking this approach versus a RIF to be positioned well for 2018.
