I'm taking the 1911 offer
« on: December 11, 2014, 01:04:22 AM »
I contacted Remington about my R51, this time they said the model 2 will be out in mid 2015. When they offered my money back or the Remington R1 1911, I took the R1 offer. From what I've read the R1 is a good gun and since I don't have a 1911 I look forward getting it. I still really like the R51, when it worked it was great. So when the model 2 comes out I'll wait for the reviews and if they really have got it right, I'll buy another one.

I received the R1 in just over a week. We shot it over the holidays and I love it. two hundred rounds without a single failure of any kind. Remington can build excellent guns. I still have hope for the R51.

The reason I ask is that everywhere that I look, I haven't seen anyone post which model it is that they are receiving?

I like the R1 Carry, but I will be keeping my collector's item R51; since I have one that actually works just fine. Purchased in April 2014 for $380 New, it was the only one I have ever seen in a gun store. Happened upon it on the way home from a prior gun shop who said their allotment of 10 had been recalled a week or so earlier. On a whim I decided to pop into the store I bought it from, as they were not as popular, but still carried a reasonable selection of products (from pas experience with them). Lucky me, they had one! I've not run into anyone else who has seen one in person or owned one, here where I live and go shooting (the Pacific NW).

Seriously, this is a very nice handling and accurate firearm. I have shot mixed ammo magazines, both FMJ & HP and two brands, various grain weights of each and no issues at all. Golden Saber 124g, Hornady Critical Duty 115g FTX, Critical Defense 135g +P Flexlock, Blazer Brass 124g FMJ, Geco 115g HP & 124 FMJ, Fiocchi 115g FMJ & 124g XTP HP, Speer GD 124g HP. The only issue I experienced in roughly 400 rounds has been the lock back slide when I reassembled incorrectly once. Fixed it on the spot in a matter of a couple minutes or less. Haven't reassembled incorrectly since. It is a very nice handgun and I look forward to the availability of either the rubberized grip panels, or the Rosewood ones, when they finally become available. The grip panels are about the only thing I don't like about it.

Smithkowitz, I actually am in the same boat as you. I have a R51 and have shot over 500 rounds thru now.

I have shot all different brands and some +P. All of which performed flawlessly. The only issue I had was when my wife was shooting it a few weeks ago and it stove piped one time.

I fully plan on keeping mine since its a early serial.

They sent me the basic R1, in black and not the enhanced model. I have every intention of buying another R51 if they get the bugs worked out, I loved it.

I wanna buy a new one too when they are re-released. My brother and me are friends with a few of the higher ups within Remington and we see them several times a year. I'm going to try to get them to hook me up with some grip panels this year when we see them again. But it might not be until the NRA convention in April
